Marilyn's Bio

Marilyn was born and raised in Dallas, TX. Her dad, Jimmy Belken, played fiddle for various country music singers including Merle Haggard, Bob Wills, Hank Thompson, Ray Price and Mel Tillis. He was inducted into the Western Swing Hall of Fame not long before he died in 2000.  He gave her violin lessons as early as 2 years old and she taught herself (with some help from Dad) guitar when she was twelve.

Marilyn loved to sing and sang in school choirs every year from 1st grade on. Soon she was singing for school talent shows and contests. Her first contest at age 13 was at the Texas State Fair on the same stage she had seen her dad perform on many times.

In the 80's she turned to songwriting and her song "The Telephone Line" was recorded by Leona Williams and can be found on CDs "Melted Down Memories" and "This Is Leona Williams Country - Featuring 11 Duets with Merle Haggard". www.leonawilliams.com   For several years while working a full time job, going to school and raising 2 kids, she played restaurants and clubs here and there.

Classical or contemporary;   -  These are the different genres of music that Marilyn brings to your special event.
